子平學裡 - zĭ píng xué lĭ - [Zi Ping Principle]
何謂陰楊 - hé wèi yīn yáng - [The Yin Yang Cycle]
我國學術皆始於易。
wŏ guó xué shù jiē shĭ yú yì.
All of our country [i.e China] science originated from [learning] changes (Yi).
易以寒暖，燥濕，剛柔，往復，動靜 ，奇偶，各種名詞。
yì yĭ hán nuăn, zào shī, gāng róu, wăng fù, dòng jìng, qí ŏu, gè zhŏng míng cí.
Changes as in: cold [vs.] hot, dry [vs.] wet, hard [vs.] soft, to come [vs.] to go, movement [vs.] stillness, odd [vs.] even, and any other kind of term.
釋陰楊之義，反复伸說，極為詳盡，為術數之所宗。
shì yīn yáng zhī yì, făn fù shēn shuō, jí wéi xiáng jìn, wéi shù shù zhī suŏ zōng.
To explain the meaning of Yin Yang, over and over again, and to extend the discussion in extremely detailed [manner], [one could use] an old numeral method [as an aid in Yin Yang explanation].
易，雷以勵之，風以散之，雨以潤之， 日以烜之，艮以止之，兌以說之，乾以君之，坤以藏之，八句, 即所以譯陰陽二字之義。
yì, léi yĭ lì zhī, fēng yĭ săn zhī, yŭ yĭ rùn zhī, rì yĭ xuăn zhī, gèn yĭ zhĭ zhī, duì yĭ shuō zhī, gān yĭ jūn zhī, kūn yĭ cáng zhī, bā jù, jí suŏ yĭ yì yīn yáng èr zì zhī yì.
…, all these eight lines, are to explain the meaning of the two words of Yin Yang.
質言之，盈虛消長而已命理小道。
zhí yán zhī yíng xū xiāo cháng ér yĭ mìng lĭ xiăo dào.
In plain words, [Yin Yang] is simply [about] the waxing and waning [or] incline and decline [cycle][in] the arts of ‘Ming Li’ [destiny reading].
無取乎此概括的定義茲為簡單說明如下。
wú qŭ hū cĭ gài kuò de dìng yì zī wéi jiăn dān shuō míng rú xià.
[In case][one][has] yet to grasp this general definition [of Yin Yang][,] here a simple explanation [as follow][:].
楊者由孕育而生長而裝旺之氣也。
yáng zhĕ yóu yùn yù ér shēng cháng ér zhuāng wàng zhī qì yĕ.
The Yang [cycle] starts from the Yun Yu [conceiving stage] then entering Sheng Chang [growing stage] up to the Zhuāng Wàng [prosperous stage] of Qi.
(方生之氣，名為進氣。下簡稱向旺。)
(fāng shēng zhī qì, míng wéi jìn qì. xià jiăn chēng xiàng wàng.)
Starting from the [growing stage] forward, [this cycle] is known as ‘Jìn Qì’ [progressive Qi]. Below abbreviates as ‘towards prosperity’.
陰者由壯旺而衰者，而死絕之氣也。
yīn zhĕ yóu zhuàng wàng ér shuāi zhĕ, ér sĭ jué zhī qì yĕ.
The Yin [cycle] starts from the Zhuang Wang [prosperous stage] then entering Shuai [weakening stage], down to the Si Jue [dead stage] of Qi.
(盛極而衰，名為退氣。下簡稱向衰。)
(shèng jí ér shuāi, míng wéi tuì qì. xià jiăn chēng xiàng shuāi.)
[From the] utmost point of prosperity then becomes weak (Shuāi), [this cycle] is known as ‘Tuì Qì’ [regressive Qi]. Below abbreviates as ‘towards weakening’.
壁如人生由胎孕而生長，以至三十壯盛之年，以至三十壯盛之年。
bì rú rén shēng yóu tāi yùn ér shēng cháng, yĭ zhì sān shí zhuàng shèng zhī nián.
Take human life for instance[,] it begins from an embryo in conceiving stage then starts to grow strong up to 30 [days] of a year.
在此時期，逐漸發育，周身細胞組紙有增無減是謂之陽。
zài cĭ shí qī, zhú jiàn fā yù zhōu shēn xì bāo zŭ zhĭ yŏu zēng wú jiăn shì wèi zhī yáng.
Within this period of time, [the embryo] starts to develop the whole body cell to form tissues steadily[,] this is called the Yang [cycle].
三十之後，雖在壯盛時期而發育已經停止。
sān shí zhī hòu, suī zài zhuàng shèng shí qī ér fā yù yĭ jīng tíng zhĭ.
After thirty days, though still in prosperous period of time[,] the development [of the whole body cell] has stopped.
自此之後，周身細胞，有減無增，逐漸衰，衰而揭之時也。
zì cĭ zhī hòu, zhōu shēn xì bāo, yŏu jiăn wú zēng, zhú jiàn shuāi, shuāi ér jiē zhī shí yĕ.
Since then, the whole body cell [development], starts decreasing not increasing [anymore], declines gradually, [and] signify the starting period of weakening [stage] as well.
命理之學，不外乎陰陽五行。
mìng lĭ zhī xué, bù wài hū yīn yáng wŭ xíng .
The study of ‘Mìng Lĭ’, has never gone beyond the scope of ‘Yin Yang Wu Xing’.
陰陽不明五行無從說起。
yīn yáng bù míng wŭ xíng wú cóng shuō qĭ.
When Yin Yang hasn’t been fully understood, [it is pointless] to start talking about Wu Xing.
故首述之。
gù shŏu shù zhī.
Thus [Yin Yang] is narrated ahead.
